The Virtual Program
The virtual program combined Nerdy Media’s LRNG Podcast Playlists and newly design social justice programming. Youth explored current events and were provided with historical context to connect the past to the present.
Empowering the next generation of podcasters means equipping youth with relevant skills. Two podcasting playlists engaged youth to develop the knowledge and technical skills to produce, publish, and promote a real-world, far-reaching, and impactful podcast.
Podcast Novice Playlist
As beginners, learners get lessons on the impacts of podcasting, how to identify topics of interest, outlining scripts, preparing for interviewing, and developing a podcast brand. After learning how to plan their podcasts, they are ready for the technical insights of the next class.
Podcast Nerd Playlist
Learners get the hands-on knowledge required to make their podcasting work. Those who go through the six modules on Recording, Editing, Music & Sound Effects, Publishing, Marketing, and Monetization earn the Podcast Nerd badge, which signifies the end of the Social Justice Podcast Program.
The Podcast Launch
The first season of the Real Talk Podcast was launched August 20th 2020 with a virtual launch party. Camrin Jones aka DJ CeeJay provide music for the event where program sponsors and the local community listened to episode previews.
The first season of the Real Talk Podcast explores topics such as Black Lives Matter, racial profiling, and police brutality. The podcast is owned by the youth media producers, providing a platform to continue conversations of any topics of interest.
Nerdy Media is extremely proud of the youth media producers of the Real Talk podcast. The objective was not only to produce a podcast, but empower and amplify youth voices.
